Cirquemétrage
Magical short story
Blending circus and hints of Magie Nouvelle, Cirquemétrage oscillates between unsettling realism and moments of absurd beauty in a sharp caricature of our productivity driven system. Drawing from the striking aesthetics of 1980s cinema, the space itself transforms alongside the protagonist, mirroring their internal struggle; a confined, oppressive world that shifts and distorts.
A phone rings. Again. And again. A woman clocks in, clocks out, one day after another.
The fluorescent hum of the office sets the rhythm, a heartbeat dictated by routine.
Work defines us, but it can also drain us.
Cirquémétrage portrays a battle against the monotony of daily life, reflecting on our obsession with productivity, the absurdity of routine, and the fine line between ambition and self-destruction.

The startingpoint comes from inspiration from the concept of short movie: “court métrage” in the art of cinema. Inspired by the aesthetics of movies from the 80’s and directors like Pedro Almodóvar, LaCampistany creates a space that transforms alongside the main character.
Review Joost Goutziers – Theaterkrant:
“La Campistany’s Cirquemétrage is promising, fragile, and magical. In this absurd, cinematic performance, Spanish artist Julia Campistany misleads the audience, creating illusions and confusion. The acting, the technique, and the lighting guide the viewer’s gaze, who thus sees much and—cleverly influenced—also fails to notice much.”Review E-tcetera – Liv Laveyne:
“Campistany creates a strange, dark magical realism. When she uses the fluorescent lamp as a trapeze, it produces beautiful chiaroscuro images.“CREDITS
